The Gloves are Off

Naasz and Moriarity brothers set for off-season challenge in Wings for Life World Run

With the ice long gone and the summer heat slowly beginning to build, the gloves are well and truly coming off this weekend as some of the top ice cross downhill athletes prepare to go into battle once more. Gone are the skates, the helmets and the heavy protective bodywear; in come the caps, the running shoes and a healthy dash of sun cream. At 11am UTC on Sunday, May 8, the Wings for Life World Run will kick-off in 34 countries across the globe, with all proceeds going towards one mission: to find a cure for spinal cord injury.

Never one to take it easy or cool off during the summer months, Cameron Naasz will be taking part in the Selfie Run (for those who can't make it to one of the 34 locations) and has challenged his Canadian rivals, Dean and Dylan Moriarity, to do the same. Ever the fierce competitors, the brothers have accepted and in the last few weeks they've been pounding the streets hard in preparation.

Over in Europe, former World Champion Marco Dallago and his brother, Luca, will also be switching from the ice to the asphalt as they join thousands of runners across the world who are aiming to add to the €7 million that has already been raised since the inception of this global event two years ago.

All five athletes will be posting updates on race day, so you'll be able to follow them on the usual social channels and keep a check on who's clocking up the most kilometres.

If keeping an eye on things isn't enough for you, maybe you'd like to join the action and contribute towards this unique charity. It's easy to take part - just sign up to run at one of the 34 official event locations, or set off on your own adventure by downloading the Selfie Run app and take part that way.
