Three elite international athletes took a break from training for the first Red Bull Crashed Ice stop of the 2015 World Championship season by taking in the sights of the famed Winter Carnival in Saint Paul, USA.
A trio of top ice cross downhill contenders got some larger-than-life inspiration on Wednesday as they checked out the massive ice sculptures of the annual Winter Carnival in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. It was a rare break for the athletes, who are keen to compete with the rest of the international field when the first Red Bull Crashed Ice event of the 2015 World Championship gets underway this week on the 460-metre-long track in front of the breathtaking Cathedral of Saint Paul.
Enjoying the scene were Scott Croxall, of Canada, who finished in second place overall last year, as well as Finnish standout Paavo Klintrup and the USA's own Andrew Bergeson, one of several Minnesota locals the fans will be screaming for. This year marks the fourth time that Saint Paul has welcomed the fastest sport on skates, and the 2014 event drew a record-setting 120,000 spectators. With the surging popularity of ice cross downhill, a line-up of the most skilled athletes yet, Saint Paul's new track with insane obstacles and an unseasonably pleasant forecast for the finals on Saturday night, the event promises a thrilling start to a tour that will dazzle crowds in four countries.
