Red Bull Crashed Ice returns to Finland for the third event of the season

On January 29-30, 2016, skaters will battle on the frozen northern rim of Europe as Red Bull Crashed Ice returns to Finland but this time to Jyväskylä, the largest city in Central Finland. The third Red Bull Crashed Ice event of the season will deliver a spectacular and action-packed competition on one of the world's most exciting natural ice tracks and the longest ever in ice cross downhill history. Finland is the home of some of the world's best ice cross downhill racers such as Miikka Jouhkimainen (8th overall) and Paavo Klintrup (7th overall). The sport is hugely popular in this country that loves speed and athletes who push themselves to the limit.

Red Bull Crashed Ice will move to Jyväskylä – Laajis ski resort for the third major stop of the season and will feature the longest track of the history of the sport. Running over 600 meters long, the course will integrate the natural elements of the environment to its epic proportions. The natural ice track in Jyväskylä will not only be the longest track of the four major races in the 2015-16 Ice Cross Downhill World Championship. The race in Finland will also be the only major stop on a natural ice track, The riders will have to adjust to the small – but important – differences of racing on the natural ice after the season opener was held on an artificial ice track built in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In general, natural ice tracks tend to be bumpier and invariably more challenging with a greater variation of the ice conditions from the start high up on the mountains to finish lines down in the valleys than the more perfect and consistent ice conditions throughout created by cooling systems that are buried beneath the artificial ice tracks.
