One of the talking points on a night of high drama was this punch-up between Kyle Croxall and Fabian Mels. Here's how the action unfolded...
It all began with this peaceful and picturesque scene in beautiful Jyväskylä-Laajis.
The athletes carefully prepared ahead of doing battle on the 630m natural ice track - the longest in history.
"5 seconds warning!" rang out across the snowy slopes.
And the athletes blasted out of the gates.
Some were caught by the natural, bumpy ice trap before they had barely begun.
The crowd could sense they were in for a treat and they weren't to be disappointed.
Maxwell Dunne was walking in the air behind Antti Tolvanen on his way to a place in the Round of 32.
And there were plenty more riders floating through the Finnish air as they tackled the many jumps and bumps.
The difficulty really set in when snow and drizzle began to fall and soften the ice.
The wetter conditions led to some heavy crashes, like this one between Kyle Croxall and Fabian Mels, leading to their bout of finish-line fisticuffs.
Over in the women's competition, Jacqueline Legere looked a certainty to claim her second win in a row, but Alexis Jackson took advantage of some carnage and cruised to victory.
Legere was still all smiles though as her second place finish moves her to the top of the standings.
Cameron Naasz had victory and early title celebrations in his sights as he powered through every round with ease.
He could almost feel the championship trophy in his hands as he surged clear in the final, but a stunning slip let the chasing pack in.
And it was his title rival Scott Croxall who sped over the finish line to claim a crucial victory.
Croxall celebrates with Pacome Schmitt and John Fisher, and what a tight, tense championship battle we have on our hands now.
