Bio

Born and raised in Oulu, Finland, Paavo Klintrup started competing in ice cross downhill in Helsinki back in 2007. Featuring a combination of his two favourite hobbies – skating and downhill skiing – the sport immediately got Paavo's attention. The police officer can rely on his physical fitness, which is a basic requirement of all ice cross downhill athletes, but stamina and outstanding skating skills alone don't guarantee success in Red Bull Crashed Ice. Paavo's tactics and strategy got him on the third step of the podium in Valkenburg in 2012 and since his debut in ice cross downhill, Paavo has been in the top 10 at most races. The Oulu downhill skater knows that a good balance on skates is crucial to succeed in ice cross downhill.

How long have you been competing in ice cross downhill?
My first race was in 2007 in Helsinki.

What first got you interested in the sport?
It is a combination of skating and downhill skiing. My two favourite hobbies combined. I like the pace and the jumps, so I got interested when I heard about the sport.

If there is one piece of advice that you could offer new riders, what would it be?
Improve your balance on skates. Even if you're not the fastest skater, if you stay up on each run, you are strong.

What is your best result or favourite memory at a Red Bull Crashed Ice?
My best result is third place in Valkenburg in the Netherlands in 2012. There are a lot of good memories!

Who is your favourite sportsman or athlete?
Teemu "Finnish Flash" Selanne, of course!
