In 2016/17 there was a brand new addition to Red Bull Crashed Ice, with a Junior World Championship replacing the team competitions on Friday evenings. The idea behind this was to give aspiring young Ice Cross Downhill athletes a chance to compete, develop and gain valuable experience on the major tracks, whilst also attracting new young blood into the sport.
Budding young skaters battled it out at each Red Bull Crashed Ice stop, with Mirko Lahti becoming the world champion after grabbing victory in Jyväskylä-Laajis, Saint Paul and Ottawa.
