Bio

Pieter Gysel, a Belgium short-track speed skater, began his international career in 2000 when he competed in the Sheffield short-track speed skating World Championship and finished 19th in the overall standings. He then competed at the European short-track speed skating championships in The Hague and placed eighth, both in the 500 metres and 1500 metres. He earned his first podium in the men's team relay in 2002, during the European Championships in Grenoble. Gysel qualified in the men's 1000 and 1500 metres and the 5000 metres relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, but got eliminated in the preliminaries. He then qualified for the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics followed by the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. Already mastering his skating skills, Pieter decided to get into a more extreme sport - ice cross downhill! He started to compete in Valkenburg where he finished second in the Belgian Heroes race. Since then, he's strived for jumps, bumps, and hairpin turns on the ice tracks around the world.
