Intro

Moscow's Vorobyevy Gory hosted the world's top ice cross downhill athletes on March 6-8, 2014.

On the banks of the Moskva River, the ice cross downhill athletes skated four-at-a-time down a long and winding track made of ice, with the Moscow State University at their back and the impressive Luzniki Stadium in front, during the fifth season of the Ice Cross Downhill World Championship.

Moscow also got its first taste of the new Ice Cross Downhill Team Competition that debuted in 2013 as two teams of three hurtle down the World Championship track at speeds of up to 60kph.

The Ice Cross Downhill World Championship 2014 race in Moscow was streamed live on redbullcrashedice.com. If you missed it, watch now on VOD. If you're in the US, the first chance to see the race will be on Fox Sports 1 on Monday, March 24, at 7.30pm (ET), with VOD available from 9.30pm on the same day on redbullcrashedice.com.

Venue

Vorobyovy Gory is one of the highest points in Moscow and offers a panoramic view of the city from a steep hill above the Moskva River. The famous Luzhniki Stadium which staged the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympic Games is within view and to the left as you look down is Novodevichy Convent with its Naryshkin Baroque towers.

The hills have been immortalised by many Russian poets and writers and Tsar Alexander I chose the site for the new Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, only for his successor, Nicholas I, to scupper the plans. The main landmarks of the hills today are the Moscow State University (at one time the tallest building in Europe) and the Trinity Church.
