Ice Cross Downhill bigger than ever before in 2015/16

For the first time ever there will be more than 10 official Ice Cross Downhill races on the calendar in the 2015/16 winter season. The highlight of the world's fastest sport on skates are the four Red Bull Crashed Ice races. The season gets off to a flying start in November.

The 2015/16 Ice Cross Downhill World Championship will kick off at the venue rich in tradition in Quebec City on November 27-28 and the biggest season in the 16-year history of the world's fastest sport on skates will feature more than 10 races, a reflection of the enormous growth of the new sport. There will be four Red Bull Crashed Ice races, six Riders Cup races as well as a number of national championships that are all organized under the patronage of the newly created All Terrain Skate Cross (ATSX) international federation.

The downhill sport on skates -- where the competitors hit speeds of more than 50 km/h while hurtling down massive ice tracks filled with drops, hairpin turns, and gaps – will also feature Red Bull Crashed Ice stops in Germany, a first-ever stop in Jyväskylä-Laajis, Finland, and a return to Saint Paul, Minnesota for the fifth straight season. New this season is a Women's World Championship with athletes competing at all four Red Bull Crashed Ice races. The season in Europe starts with the first Riders Cup race in Wagrain-Kleinarl, returning to the Austrian resort on December 19.

There will also be six Riders Cup races on the calendar – three in North America and three in Europe – as the high-speed sport continues to grow rapidly. The athletes will be competing for a maximum of up to 1,000 championship points for the winners of the four Red Bull Crashed Ice races and a maximum of up to 250 points awarded to the winners of the six Riders Cup stops, a new feeder event created last season "by riders for riders" to open the sport to even more competitors in more locations. Whoever wins the most points from the three of the four Red Bull Crashed Ice events and from three of the six Riders Cup races will be crowned Ice Cross Downhill World Champion.
